The woman was admitted for suspected typhoid fever, but routine testing revealed a Covid-19 infection. She is being officially counted under Haryana’s health records, but Mohali authorities have taken swift action to prevent any spread.

Isolation and Containment Protocols Activated

Mohali Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal confirmed that the hospital area where the patient was treated has been isolated, and standard Covid protocols have been put in place.

“We’ve alerted all hospitals to ensure testing for every admitted patient. The situation is completely normal and there is no reason to panic,” she said.

Genome Sequencing Underway

Civil Surgeon Dr. Sangeeta Jain stated that the patient’s samples have been sent for genome sequencing to identify the specific Covid variant.

“All necessary steps have been taken as per the state and central government guidelines,” Dr. Jain added.

Health Department Urges Vigilance

Hospitals across the district have been advised to remain alert and prepared. Authorities reassured the public that the Covid situation is under control, and there is no current health emergency.
