Hajj 2025 successfully ended with more than 1.6 million Muslims from over 150 countries gathering in Mecca to perform one of Islam’s most sacred rituals, the Saudi Arabian authorities confirmed on June 9, 2025.

Key Dates of Hajj 2025

The Hajj pilgrimage was held between 4 June and 9 June 2025, which corresponds to the 8th to 13th days of Zil-Hajj, the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

Indian Participation in Hajj 2025

This year, about 175,000 Indian Muslims participated. Of these, 120,000 pilgrims travelled through the Hajj Committee of India under the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs, while the remaining 50,000 pilgrims used private tour operators.

Saudi Authorities Praise Successful Management

According to Dr. Tawfig bin Fawzan Al-Rabiah, Minister of Hajj and Umrah, this year’s Hajj demonstrated how pilgrimage services are evolving. He stated:

“Serving 1.6 million pilgrims with over 130 digital services, increasing emergency care by 60%, and operating more than 20,000 buses and trains shows our commitment to making Hajj safe, seamless, inclusive, and spiritually fulfilling.”

The Rituals and Significance of Hajj

During the pilgrimage, Muslims performed important rituals, including the symbolic stoning of the devil in Mina, and celebrated Eid al-Adha. In Saudi Arabia, Eid al-Adha was observed on 6 June 2025, while in India, it was marked on 7 June 2025. This festival honors the Prophet Ibrahim’s act of devotion.

Visa Suspension Lifted After Hajj

Saudi Arabia had temporarily suspended short-term visas for 14 countries, including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, and others, to prevent overcrowding and unauthorized entries into Mecca during Hajj. Many unauthorized visitors in past years lacked official permits, making it difficult for authorities to ensure their safety.

Now that Hajj 2025 is complete, the visa suspension has been lifted. According to the Indian government:

“During the Hajj season, temporary restrictions are applied on short-term visas to prevent overcrowding, which end after the pilgrimage concludes.”

Preparations Begin for Hajj 2026

With Hajj 2025 concluded, Saudi Arabia has already started planning for Hajj 2026. Early operational plans have been shared with Hajj offices worldwide, emphasizing the Kingdom’s ongoing dedication to improving the pilgrim experience under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.

Many Pilgrims Also Visit Medina

Although not officially part of Hajj, many pilgrims travel to Medina, home to the Prophet Muhammad’s tomb, considered Islam’s second-holiest city. This visit offers additional spiritual fulfillment for many Muslims.
